I already know how to play the piano, flute, violin, alto sax, and clarinet. I am really good at picking up instraments fast. I have also been taking lessons for most of those instraments but some I learned alone. Will it be hardto learn how to play the acoustic guitar without lessons? I have always wanted to play guitar and would be really dedicated. Thanks for the help!!
Heck no. I learned by myself and im 13.. its really easy. get a good put practive 30-60 minutes a day for a while and you will be playing guitar fine.
Good Luck!

Well, after some discussion with the teacher, I had my 12 year old kid skip the acoustic and go straight to electric. It is claimed that because the string action is tougher on an acoustic it is easier to segue from acoustic to electric. The problem is that you don’t want your kid getting bored and giving up. The electric is more fun and makes all sorts of weird noises, so the kid might stay interested longer. I just bought him a Fender "Jumpstart" package. It includes a Squier SE with tremolo, a small practice amp, gig bag, tuner, strap, guitar stand and instructional dvd. That was bought at Guitar Center for $180 and then I had some promotional $$$ off. The guitar is the same one I have been renting for $30 a month, so he will be comfortable with it already. It’s good for a beginner. No need to go out and spend hundreds on a better one when you don’t know if the kid is going to stick it out and cheap enough so you don’t have to buy one of these WalMart junkers, like a "First Act".

Chris Broderick of Megadeth (ex Jag Panzer and Nevermore) playing a 5 octave two handed tapping arpeggio riff, one of three examples that was done for Guitar Worlds “Betcha can’t play this” column. It wasn’t used because it is performed on a seven string and they wanted it to appeal to all guitarists. The other two examples are in the October 2006 issue of Guitar World.
